His Majesty Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II

I am highly honoured to be the Patron of the Ghanaian Genome Project

His Majesty Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II

This project is embarked upon under the patronage of the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II.

Our patron, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the 35th king of the Ofori Panin Stool of the Akyem Abuakwa State, ascended the throne on October 4th 1999 after the passing of his predecessor and brother, Nana Kuntunkununku II. The Okyenhene is distinguished as an ardent and outspoken advocate for development in the areas of Child Welfare, Health, Education and Environmental protection in Akyem Abuakwa and Ghana as a whole; A pledge he made on ascending the throne and has over the years been committed to, by initiating and implementing a number of policies and programs that tackle them.

Osagyefuo’s strong passion for good health practices among his people can be seen through various initiatives including his works in the prevention and care of HIV/AIDS, his patronage on several health-related boards amongst other health initiatives.

Osagyefuo, also set up the Okyeman AIDS Foundation and the Okyeman HIV/AIDS education week that coincides with the World AIDS Day to coordinate works pertaining to this area.

Being a passionate advocate for the education of the youth also, Osagyefuo has put measures in place creating a support mechanism for the development of education in Okyeman.

Biography

Osagyefuo was born on the 10th of December, 1952 to Nana Yaw Boakye and Odekye Abena Akoto. He attended Akwatia Cast Primary School; Abuakwa State College and then proceeded to sixth form at Oxford. Osagyefuo holds a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Hartford University, Connecticut, United States of America. He took up an insurance career and was an Insurance Broker and Office Manager of First Elizabeth International Brokerage, 1993 – 1998 before returning home to ascend the Ofori Panin stool.

He is married to Elizabeth Nana Asabea Ofori Atta and the father of two boys, Nana Yaw Boakye and Akoto.
